3. The repetitive invoking of old sayings, or emitting a wordy discourse with little or no meaning, to avoid serious discussion; obfuscation; as, to defend one's views with empty incantations. [PJC]
Stephania Toczyska sang this incantation strongly if not beautifully before trudging off to join the chanting Old Believers, a group of fanatics led by Dosifei (Martti Talvela).
Recently, her son, a local sanitation worker, spotted dozens of people walking out of the woods, chanting some sort of incantation.
