    st["a]tte, Icel. sta[eth]r, Dan. sted, Sw. stad, Goth.
    sta[thorn]s, and E. stand. [root]163. See {Stand}, and cf.
    {Staith}, {Stithy}.]
    1. Place, or spot, in general. [Obs., except in composition.]
