Abstract: Through the tests of the reinforced concrete T-beams strengthened respectively with a method of three-side-enveloping fibreglass reinforced plastics (FRP) films and that of FRP plates,the effects of these methods on the bending capacity and the increase in stiffness of T-beams as well as the difference between them were obtained.Finally,the practical calculation formulas for each of the methods were proposed using theoretical analysis and by reference to“The Code of Concrete Structure Design”(GBJ10-89).Explorations were also made to use these new materials for strengthening buildings in the future practice.
